The Collin County Chapter of NPSOT meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:15 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) at the Heard Museum in McKinney. There is a social time before the meetings which starts at 7:00 p.m. Guests are invited to join us at the monthly meetings.

The Heard Museum is located just off Highway 138 on One Nature Place. A map is located at http://www.heardmuseum.org/maps/directions.asp. Our formal meetings are January through October. We wrap up our year with a potluck dinner in November and spend December with our families.
In addition to featuring a speaker at our meetings, members bring in their native plants for show and tell.

January 5 : Peoples, Prairies, Partners: The Rolling Plains
Betsy Farris, our local and state NPSOT Treasurer will give an account of the 2009 NPSOT Symposium held on the Rolling Plains in and about Wichita Falls.
February 2 :Using Native Plants in the Landscape
Carol Feldman, past president of the NPSOT and an accomplished landscape designer, will share her ideas and experience for landscaping with native plants.
March 2 : The 2010 NPSOT Symposium in Denton, TX
Cynthia Maguire President-elect of the NPSOT will share “Birds & Bees, and Native Plants,” a message about the importance of habitat preservation. She will also connect this message with details of the plans for the Symposium that will celebrate our 30th anniversary and how we will be reaching out to a wider audience of non-members—homeowners, nursery and landscape design professionals, government entities to promote the enjoyment, preservation and restoration of our native plants.

Michael Parkey, a landscape architect working in Dallas and Collin Counties will discuss his recent research pertinent to the rapid urbanization of Collin County.
June 1, 6:00 PM: A Tour of the Heard Prairie, Wetlands and Forest
Led by Roger Sanderson, Director of Botanical Gardens & Wildlife Biologist at The Heard Museum.
The Walk will begin at 6:00 pm. Meet at the Heard Museum at Laughlin Hall to start your adventure
July 6: Jim Varnum -- Invasives -- They're All Around Us
Jim is one of the most active and energetic amateur naturalists in north Texas.
He publishes the monthly online news letter, "Jim's This and That," the leading source locally for what is going on in the realm of our outdoor world.
August 3: Garden Show & Tell
Our members and guests submit their digital photos of favorite and interesting plants
September 7: Grasses, a Follow Up
Rich Janes, a chapter member, expands on his well-received presentation from last year.
