DISTRIBUTION: Central and south Texas to Florida and Mexico. From
spring through fall, scarlet flowers decorate this shrub. The unusual 1
inch blooms which have long protruding stamens never quite open.
Hummingbirds flock to the flowers and other birds relish the red
apple-like fruit. This shrub is a must if you love hummingbirds. Cut
the branches back to the ground after frost.
