Turk's Cap or Wax Mallow: Malvaviscus drummondii   Family: Mallow: Malvaceae
NATIVE DISTRIBUTION:  Central and south Texas to Florida and Mexico. From spring through fall, scarlet flowers decorate this shrub. The unusual 1 inch blooms which have long protruding stamens  never quite open. Hummingbirds flock to the flowers and other birds relish the red apple-like fruit. This shrub is a must if you love hummingbirds. Cut the branches back to the ground after frost.
