Landscape Restoration

From back yard to back forty

Presented by Native Plant Society of Texas at

 Riverside Nature Center*

Tuesday, February 5, 2:00 p.m.

Jayson May of Native American Seed will give the program.

It will deal with the why, when and how of using native seeds to bring about a natural landscape for the benefit of plants, people, wildlife and the environment.
Native American Seed is a family owed seed company dedicated to helping people to restore the earth using ecologically sustainable techniques.  The company carries over 185 species of native grasses, forbs and wildflowers and has a knowledgeable staff that is driven to help make each person’s native planting a total success.   With over 100 years of combined experience, Native American Seed is a leader in the field of ecological restoration, native seed production and sustainable agriculture.  It is the company’s goal to be able to share this experience with its customers in order to bring about lasting positive change to this part of the world.

Important reminder: Please bring native plants for the drawing. Thus is really fun when we have a large number of plants.

Not sure it’s a native……Bring for discussion and PPID( Positive Plant Identification)

Additional Opportunities

Great Backyard Bird Count

"The Great Backyard Bird Count," Saturday, February 2, 10-11 a.m. at

Riverside Nature Center presented by Tom Collins, Texas Master

Naturalist and well-known birder. The Great Backyard Bird Count is an

annual four-day event that engages tens of thousands of bird watchers of

all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the

birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning

bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes. It's fun

and easy --- and it helps the birds.

This presentation is part of a new, informative birding program series

sponsored by Riverside Nature Center. The programs are for all ages and

will be held on Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m.

LAND MANAGEMENT PRESENTATION

Land Management Presentation - Saturday, February 9, 9am-12noon at

Riverside Nature Center.

As part of Riverside Nature Center's Learning for Living Series, Jim

Stanley, President of the Hill Country Chapter of Texas Master

Naturalists, will give a presentation entitled, " Land Management: Making

Your Property Naturally Healthy". The presentation will be from 9:00

until 12:00 at Riverside Nature Center on February 9.

The Library Garden   It’s that time again!

The Native Plant Garden behind the library is a project of the Native Plant Society. We will meet on Tuesday, February 13, at 9:00 am to begin spring pruning and make plans for the coming growing season. It will be too early to cut back some of the plants, however, the cenizos, Turk's caps and some others can be cut now so there will be less work in March. Please bring clippers and gloves and wear good shoes. The City of Kerrville will pick up the yard trash but a rack or a big box would also be useful. I hope to see you on Tuesday, February 13.
