PROGRAM
TOUR OF PRIVATE
RANCH
Our
meeting on Tuesday,
Nov 2h will be a tour of a ranch
belonging to the parents of Pattie Leslie Pasztor.
Pattie is
co-author with Paul
Cox of “Texas Trees; A Friendly Guide”. She is an ethnobotanist
and naturalist ( as well as being charming)
and has worked at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Pattie will guide us
on this tour of the many native trees she has planted on the Leslie
Ranch and also introduce us to the native shrubs and woody plants on the
property
This
trip is for NPSOT members only as we will be guests on private land. We
will meet at the Leslie Ranch at 2PM. In the event of rain, the field
trip will be cancelled. Check with the Riverside Nature Center if in
doubt-257-4837. It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes and bring some
water
If
you prefer to carpool meet at the Riverside Nature Center at 1PM to
organize carpools
DRIVING
INSTRUCTIONS; Driving time is about 45
minutes from Kerrville. Coming from Kerrville on IH 10
, take the first exit to Comfort. Turn South (right) on HWY 87
towards Comfort. At Blinking Light turn Left on RTE 473 towards Sisterdale.
After about 5 miles Rte 473 turns right going on to Sisterdale-
DO NOT TURN- BUT CONTINUE STRAIGHT on Old # 9 for about another 5 miles
to gate on left with Giles Ranch Rd. green street sign and Hillingdon
Ranch big sign. Go through gate and after 2 miles, turn left at cattleguard
with rock marker # 129. Road bends between a big red
house and barn/pens. Continue on road through field for about ½
mile that dead ends into Leslie House
(Coming
from Kerrville on Hwy 27, go through Comfort to Hwy 87 going towards
Fredericksburg. Before the IH 10 Exchange, turn right at the blinking
light at Route 473 towards Sisterdale.)
The
Kerrville Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas holds monthly
meetings on the first Tuesday of the month (September through June)
usually at Riverside Nature Center, 150 Francisco Lemos
St. in Kerrville. These
meetings are free and open to the public.

7 at 2PM: Bill Lindemann will be giving a program entitled” Big Bend
National Park: A Naturalist Dreamland” at the Riverside Nature Center.
In this talk Bill will be concentrating on the PLANTS of Big Bend as
opposed to other features of the area emphasized in a previous
talk

will not be available for
our field trip but please volunteer to bring refreshments for our
