The program encourages everyone - homeowner, teacher, community leader - to plan their landscape with the needs of wildlife in mind, and gives them the tools they need to make it happen. Today, thousands of habitats have been certified all over the U.S. and Canada, and more are being certified every day!
Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association
Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association is a young and growing association serving Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington counties.  Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens. They are enthusiastic, willing to learn and to help others, and able to communicate with diverse groups of people. What really sets Master Gardeners apart from other home gardeners is their special training in horticulture. In exchange for their training, persons who become Master Gardeners contribute time as volunteers, working through their cooperative Extension office to provide horticultural-related information to their communities. To learn more about the Master Gardener program, call the Austin County Agent's Office at 979 865-5911 extension 170, or the Washington County Office at 979 277-6212 regarding future training classes. We invite you to join us.  NSPOT Member, Carol Muegge, is the 2nd Vice-President of the BMG.

Outpost @ Cedar Creek
Our inn is a uniquely restored 1880's German farmstead just outside of Round Top. We have individual antique log cabins and cottages and feature a variety of gardens to compliment each structure. We have been featured in numerous publications and will have a feature article this Fall, 2005 in Southern Living magazine, and will be on the Bill Welch Gardenfest Tour this October. We are the proud new owners of the Gideon Linscum log cabin where the early Texas naturalist lived and worked.  NPSOT member, Lenore Prud'Homme, is the owner.
Round Top -Carmine Community Garden
at the Round Top Family Library is underway thanks to the efforts of the Library's newest volunteer group. "Where Community Grows" has been adopted by the members whose goal is to help establish native habitats, promote a sense of community, and offer educational resources to members and the community at large. If you're interested in participating, you'll appreciate how well organized this group is. They've even created a Mission Statement, and instituted a number of committees that include Planning, Site Design, Layout and Construction, Planting and Maintenance, Communications (photography and scrapbook activities), Workshops and Social, and Wildlife Attraction. The group meets on the second Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Library. New members are needed and most welcome.

Texas Bluebird Society
The Texas Bluebird Society is working to establish “bluebirds across Texas,” and you can be a part of our effort. * If you have suitable habitat (somewhat open area with short grass) add at least one nestbox in your yard. * Landscape your property in a way that will create optimal habitat for bluebirds. This might include planting berry producing trees for winter food, reducing pesticide use and controlling predators on your property. To learn more about bluebirds and other cavity-nesting bird species in Texas and what you can do to help, please contact the Texas Bluebird Society or your Bluebird Ambassador for Washington and surrounding counties: Ann Thames, 979-278-3053.
