May 2nd field trip to Ft. Hood
This field trip turned out to be one of the highlights of the year. Gil Eckrich and Charlotte Reemts of the Nature Conservancy lead the tour. The primary purpose of the trip was to observe how plants and wildlife can recover after wildfires. We visited areas that are habitats for two endangered bird species, the Golden-Cheeked Warbler and Black-Capped Vireo. The picture at left was taken by Gil during this field trip and is included here with his permission.
May 5th meeting: We all thought we knew about the birds and bees. It turns out we didn't know much about the bees after all. But thanks to John Neff, an expert on wild bees, we came away amazed at the number and variety of these marvelous creatures.
