A head count was taken at 12:30 p.m. and there were 49 people present along with 2 parks officials.
The tour of the new interpretive center by Don Whited, Park Naturalist, Ray Roberts State Park Complex, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and his Interpretive Center assistant, Whitney Baker gave us a preview as to great things to come when the formal opening takes place on October 20 at 10 a.m.
Everyone had a wonderful time, talking, walking around, some went swimming, many entered the balloon tossing contest, eating the delicious spread of food, and, of course, the ice cream!
The weather was nearly perfect for the entire picnic. However, it was sunny with a only a few clouds in the sky when we were eating ice cream. Suddenly a down draft hit us followed by 20 knot winds. We were holding down table cloths, pouring water on the fire, chasing plates and hats and generally scurrying around trying to pack things up before they blew away. An exciting end to an enjoyable picnic!
Many thanks to Kathy Saucier and Fonda Fox for making arrangements with
the park and organizing the meal and picnic.
