Native Plant Society of Williamson CountyMay 10, 2007-Meeting Minutes from Marilyn Perz
President Phyllis Dolich called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. Members and library patrons had enjoyed the plant swap that had been held near the parking lot of the Georgetown Library. (a) Phyllis thanked Janet Church and all the volunteers who helped with the Spring Plant Sale at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in April. This sale was our most successful so far, netting $2100.54 for the treasury. (b) Phyllis had brochures, posters and vendor booth forms for the Fall State Symposium. Members were encouraged to take this material for distribution. These are some of the publicity documents that were paid for by the City of Georgetown Hotel Tax. (c) Phyllis reminded members of Brian and Shirley Loflin’s native grass program at the Sun City Nature Club meeting on Tuesday May 15th at 2:30pm in the Sun City Community Ballroom and the Austin Reptile and Amphibian EXPO on May 19-20th at the Wingate Inn and Conference Center in Round Rock. (d) Phyllis stated that the membership was in favor of having the July 12th meeting as a potluck. During that meeting the slate of 2008 officers will be announced and voted on, but there is a need for a nominating committee to provide the list of candidates. Also at the July meeting members are encouraged to bring written lists of suggestions for programs and field trips. (e) Sue Wiseman gave the treasurer’s report for Kathy Galloway. $9,470 is now in treasury. (f) Marilyn Perz mentioned that old seeds were cleaned off the Seed Exchange board and broadcast at the fieldtrip to the Heritage Garden on April 29 and that everyone was invited to celebrate the first Plant Conservation Day at the field trip at the Perz Property on Sunday May 20th from 2-4pm. Direction handouts were available (g) Kathy McCormick mentioned the tree class on Sept 27 from 7-9 pm with a fieldtrip on Sept 29 from 9-11am. Marilyn Perz passed out a sign up sheet. (h) Dennis Perz spoke on the Landscape Recognition Award and a vote was taken to nominate the Wolf Ranch Town Center as the first recipient. Sue Wiseman made the motion and Dale McQuinn seconded it and the members voted unanimously. Dennis was chosen to be the Head of the Recognition committee with Vickie Husband and Walt Henderson joining him. They will proceed in purchasing a plaque and arranging publicity. (i) Jason Spangler invited the members to a field trip to Simpson Prairie near Crawford on Saturday May 12.
