SUMMARY:iNaturalist City Nature Challenge 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join the City Nature Challenge 2025: San Antonio Metro \n\n\n\nJoin the City Nature Challege 2025: NPSOT Group \n\n\n\nJoin Texas Parks and Wildlife\, Texas Master Naturalists\, Native Plant Society of Texas\,  the Audubon Society\, and many others in a fun challenge to see which city can document the most species during April 25 – April 28\,2025. It is easy to participate by joining an event or making observations on your own using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app\, you just take a picture of a plant or animal\, and the community will help identify which species it is. Any observation in the San Antonio Metro Area (12 counties are: Atascosa\, Bandera\, Bexar\, Comal\, Gillespie\, Goliad\,  Guadalupe\, Karnes Kendall\, Kerr\, Medina\, Wilson as well as three parks: Enchanted Rock State Natural Area\, Lost Maples State Park\, and Palmetto State Park.) will count during the four-day challenge. You can participate by exploring the life in your backyard\, in your local parks\, public nature areas\, or on a field trip with your local naturalist group. You can also help with IDs for other people’s observations to increase our species count\, come to a bioblitz\, or even hold your own event! \n\n\n\nProject Details: This bioblitz is part of the broader San Antonio Metro Area – City Nature Challenge\, coinciding with other events  \n\n\n\n\n2025 – detaits coming by Nov 2024\n\n\n\n\nObjectives of CNC2025: \n\n\n\n• Foster friendly competition within internal groups and with other urban areas across Texas and the globe.• Collect urban biodiversity data accessible to biologists and scientists. SUMMARY:Plant Identification at Enchanted Rock SNA for City Nature Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Location: Enchanted Rock State Natural Area\, 16710 RR 965\, Fredericksburg\, TX \n\n\n\nThis event will concentrate on identifying the plants that are found in the granite soils of Enchanted Rock SNA to increase the biodiversity reported for the San Antonio Metro Area of the CNC. Animals will also be recorded. Teams will be formed to walk the different trails. Experienced iNat observers will be valuable but less knowledgeable participants can help find plants. Later start times can be coordinated. The meeting site for 8:30 AM arrival will be the parking lot at the check in center \n\n\n\nThere will be the option to bring a lunch and make observations in the afternoon. DESCRIPTION:Program given by Elizabeth McGreevy\, a Texas A&M graduate\, a Natural Resources Ecologist and author of “Wanted! Mountain Cedars\, Dead and Alive”. She is the owner of Land Steward where she produces ecosystem-based management plans for Hill Country landowners. In 2022\, she founded Project Bedrock\, now in partnership with The Watershed Association\, to promote using mountain cedars and other nature-based solutions to regenerate the limestone karst country regions of Texas. \n\n\n\nTopic: Mountain Cedars (Ashe Junipers) as Ecosystem Engineers – Improving and Sustaining Texas Karst Country Function. Come learn about these benefits and what we can do to use mountains cedars as another nature-based solution to help enhance soil health\, groundwaters\, productivity\, property values\, and resilience.
