SUMMARY:Habitat Workday @ EIH
DESCRIPTION:Habitat volunteers help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  John W. Zeitler\, Science & Operations Officer Austin-San Antonio Weather Forecast Office \n\n\n\nTopic: Weather and Climate \n\n\n\nJon W. Zeitler is retired from the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Forecast Office in New Braunfels\, Texas\, where he served as the Science and Operations Officer. He previously served in National Weather Service forecaster positions at Houston/Galveston\, Texas; Rapid City\, South Dakota; and College Station\, Texas.  \n\n\n\nBefore joining the National Weather Service\, Jon was a climatologist at the Southeast Regional Climate Center in Columbia\, South Carolina\, and at the Texas State Climatologist’s Office at Texas A&M University.  \n\n\n\nJon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from Iowa State University\, and a Master of Science degree in meteorology from Texas A&M University.   \n\n\n\nHis professional interests are: decision support\, safety and preparedness\, and severe local storms.  He has authored a number of papers on those and other topics.   \n\n\n\nJon is a member of the National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society\, and he has served on committees\, boards\, and as journal article editor and reviewer. \n\n\n\nJoin us for our monthly chapter meetings. You do not need to be a member to attend. We meet the first Tuesday of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meetings start with a social time at 6:00pm. Announcements will begin at 6:45pm\, followed by the presentation. Members and other attendees are encouraged to show pictures and tell about their favorite native Texas plants\, such as: \n\n\n\n\nYour favorite native plant(s) in your landscape and their stories.\n\n\n\nReminiscing about a stunning native wildflower(s) you photographed on a hike.\n\n\n\nWhy you find a particular native species so fascinating.\n\n\n\nYour interest in a natural area teeming with native Texas plants.\n\n\n\n\nWe’re Looking for Show & Tellers!\n\n\n\nThis is your chance to share your photos and stories. Everyone is invited to present. Presentations can be done in-person or remotely via Zoom. \n\n\n\n\nWhat to Share: Pictures of your favorite native Texas plants from your home\, a park\, or any natural area.\n\n\n\nTime: Presentations have no minimum length\, but are limited to a 10-minute maximum.\n\n\n\nRequirement: Just one!
