DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  Meg Inglis\, Native Plant Society of Texas Executive Director \n\n\n\nTopic: NPSOT State Updates \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNPSOT Boerne is honored to host Meg Inglis\, the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) Executive Director as our speaker for our May 6\, 2025 meeting.The Boerne Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas has a lot to celebrate in its 25th anniversary year – the chapter has accomplished so much! Meg Inglis\, Society Executive Director\, is honored to be part of the celebration.  \n\n\n\n\nMeg will give a brief overview of recent state level accomplishments and activities and then respond to any questions that attendees might have. \n\n\n\nA few state level highlights include: \n\n\n\n\nWhat is the member portal? How to access it and what lies within?\n\n\n\nDelights of the new state website – cool (and useful!) new sites such as the native plant database.\n\n\n\nGaining more chapter publicity through state communications digital and print media!\n\n\n\nTips to making chapter life easier – key resources.\n\n\n\nSociety swag.\n\n\n\n\nLet’s catch up! \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:  Meg Inglis accepted the position as Executive Director in 2021. Prior to that\, she coordinated NPSOT’s Native Landscape Certification Program for 7 years. \n\n\n\nFor many years she worked in the field of environmental health and safety for medical device manufacturing facilities and other organizations.  \n\n\n\nShe has a Bachelor’s in Biology\, secondary science teaching certification\, and a Master’s in Public Administration.  \n\n\n\nMeg’s passion for native plants began in 2000 when she and her family built their home on a 2-acre parcel of land near Dripping Springs. Her knowledge of ecology and their decision to be solely dependent on a rainwater system drove their decision to restore their property with natives.  \n\n\n\nShe is a long-time member of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT)\, serving as Austin NPSOT Chapter President and other positions on the board for several years. Other favorite organizations include the Native Prairies Association of Texas and the Texas Society for Ecological Restoration. In addition\, she participated in the 2009 Hays County Texas Master Naturalist program. \n\n\n\nAbout NPSOT Boerne Meetings: Join us for our monthly chapter meetings. You do not need to be a member to attend. We meet the first Tuesday of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meetings start with a social time at 6:00pm. Announcements will begin at 6:45pm\, followed by the presentation. This event is also part of McKinney’s Green Seminars and features Carol Clark as our presenter\, speaking on “North Texas Pollinators”.. \n\n\n\nDiscover the fascinating world of North Texas pollinators and learn how to support them in your own landscape. Carol will share insights about various kinds of pollinators\, their importance\, and actionable strategies for supporting these essential creatures through pollinator-focused plantings and management practices. She will also highlight her favorite plants for creating pollinator-friendly spaces. \n\n\n\nDoors (and Zoom) open at 6:30 PM for socializing and setup. Carol grew up with a nature photographer father and wildlife artist brother\, and has spent much of her life looking around in the great outdoors. Her favorite things to do are leading discovery walks in local natural areas\, and finding and photographing interesting plants and insects.

The meeting begins at 7:00 PM.  The guest presentation begins after a short business meeting. \n\n\n\nPlease note: this month’s presentation will NOT be recorded for YouTube. \n\n\n\nAbout our topic: Wizzie will cover invasive arthropods that should be reported and how and where to report them. \n\n\n\nClick here to download a free pamphlet: the Emerald Ash Borer in Texas. \n\n\n\nAbout our speaker: Wizzie Brown is a Senior Extension Program Specialist-IPM with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. She works to educate others about insects and integrated pest management and hopefully succeeds in teaching that insects have their place in our world. Wizzie is a Board-Certified Entomologist specializing in urban and structural pest management\, but also covers landscapes\, gardens\, native pollinators\, insect identification as well as other topics.
