SUMMARY:Austin Chapter Meeting - Your Backyard Arthropods with Wizzie Brown
DESCRIPTION:Your Backyard Arthropods \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWizzie Brown will speak to us about the good arthropods that can be found in your backyard.From pollinators to decomposers to predators and parasitoids\, there are manyarthropods that help us often without being recognized.  The presentation will identifythree main categories of beneficial arthropods and how to identify some of the ones youmay see in your own backyard. \n\n\n\nWizzie Brown is a Senior Extension Program Specialist- integrated pest management(IPM) with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. She received her Bachelor ofScience in entomology from Ohio State University and a Master of Science inentomology from Texas A&M University. After leaving Texas A&M\, Wizzie worked instructural pest control before taking a job with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service inAustin. She is a Board-Certified Entomologist with a specialty in Urban Entomology andholds a non-commercial license from the Texas Structural Pest Control Service. Herresearch interests include red imported fire ants\, bed bugs\, and termites.She works to educate others about insects and integrated pest management and inteaching about insect’s relevance in our world. She specializes in urban and structuralpest management\, but also covers landscapes\, gardens\, native pollinators\, insectidentification as well as other topics. \n\n\n\nJoin us for our monthly Chapter Meeting\, 4th Tuesday of each month 7PM (with social time at 6:30PM). \n\n\n\nLocation: Lakewood Clubhouse at 7317 Lakewood Dr\, Austin\, TX 78750. \n\n\n\nThe meeting has a Zoom hybrid option as well. DESCRIPTION:Arrive at 6:30pm to share or find native plants at the Native Plants for All table. \n\n\n\nThis will be a “hybrid” meeting\, attend in-person or online. \n\n\n\n\nIn person: The Gathering Center at the Urban Ecology Center at Phil Hardberger Park\, 8400 NW Military Hwy\n\n\n\nOnline: Please register in advance to attend via Zoom.\n\n\n\n\nPresentation by Jeannie Hernandez\, Quality Assurance Specialist II with San Antonio River AuthoritySlow Down Burden\, Spread Out Teamwork\, Sink In Impact\n\n\n\nThe Residential Rain Garden Club at The San Antonio River Authority is a group of like-minded people who enjoy sharing expertise and solving landscape problems. For the past 10 years our group has worked to solve drainage issues with nature-based practices including rain gardens\, pollinator swales\, and replacing turf grass with native plants on member-owned properties. Our volunteer efforts have resulted in many residential projects that improve landscapes for the homeowner\, wildlife\, and the watershed. Our team has worked hard to implement solutions\, teaching and learning as we grow a community of watershed wise stewards. \n\n\n\nJeanette Hernandez is a Quality Assurance Specialist II currently holding the position of Deputy Quality Manager for the San Antonio River Authority TCEQ Laboratory Accreditation Program. She also serves as the Laboratory Quality Assurance Officer for the Texas Clean Rivers Program (CRP). \n\n\n\nIf you are attending in person\, there is no need to register. However\, if you are attending via Zoom\, please register here before the meeting begins as late registration and entry will not be allowed. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\n\n\nNote: The Zoom recording will be available within days after the meeting on our  YouTube channel.
