Free and open to the public. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM.  The guest presentation begins after a short business meeting. \n\n\n\nAbout our topic:  Come and learn the plant-identifying characteristics for 25 native perennial grasses found in and around Central Texas. Clear photos will showcase the features to look for in making positive identification. Grass ID may seem difficult but will be made easier by the photos and a handout on the characteristics that will guide you in making identification. Never again fear the grasses as you walk across the prairies and woods of Central Texas. \n\n\n\nAbout our speaker: Ricky Linex is a wildlife biologist having retired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service where he worked 38.5 years. Over the previous 18 years Ricky served 52 counties in north-central Texas. Ricky is the author of Range Plants of North Central Texas: A Land User’s Guide to their Identification\, Value and Management. His assistance to landowners and managers involves mutual education on how to better manage rangelands for sustainable use by livestock and wildlife. Knowing the plants and how to manage them is critical for success as a land steward. SUMMARY:Second Saturday Workday at Cibolo Nature Center Demonstration Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Generally every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm is our monthly workday in the demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center. Typical activities include planting\, weeding\, nurturing\, mulching\, caging\, etc. \n\n\n\nBring your favorite garden tools\, gloves\, sun and insect protection\, and water to drink. \n\n\n\nLearn planting techniques from an experienced native gardeners. Learn to identify native plants\, the environmental niches they normally occupy\, their use by wildlife\, and their placement in landscapes to provide a pleasing vista. Help maintain our two demonstration gardens so we can continue to educate and promote native plants to our Hill Country friends! \n\n\n\nAlso\, note that this “Second Saturday Workday” is approved as a Master Naturalist Volunteer Activity. \n\n\n\nWe maintain two demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center.   \n\n\n\nThe first demonstration garden is located by the main parking lot area\, and includes the central island and raised beds bordering the parking area. This garden is also where we teach students how to identify plants in the Native Landscape Certification Program classes. \n\n\n\nThe second demonstration garden at the Cibolo Nature Center is referred to as Bill’s Garden\, in honor of Chapter founder and garden designer\, Bill Ward.  It is located in the shaded area between the Auditorium and Administrative buildings at the Cibolo Nature Center. \n\n\n\nJoin the fun loving group that helps the CNC and NPSOT demonstrate the use of native plants in gardens! \n\n\n\nFor more information contact Veronica Hawk at veronica.hawk@gmail.com.

Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. Our rich plant diversity is filled with wonderful\, native seasoning and spice plants that will satisfy even the most demanding palate. Join internationally recognized foraging instructor and author Dr. Mark Vorderbruggen aka “Merriwether” for a dive into his favorite wild herbs for jazzing up his meals and soon yours! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\nDr. Vorderbruggen is a preacher of cavemanosity\, forever trying to help people’s health by teaching them what their bodies need based on their ancient evolution. To do this\, he first lures you in with the edible and medicinal plants that still surround us\, followed by opening your eyes to nature\, humans\, and why they co-evolved to need each other. This has led to books\, magazine articles\, hundreds of interviews and nearly 1000 speaking engagements over the last 20 years. When not doing that\, he still creates nature-based products for companies ranging from snack foods to painting chemicals. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur monthly chapter meetings are held on every 3rd Thursday\, January – November. DESCRIPTION:🌿 Calling All Native Plant Enthusiasts! 🌿  Be a Pollinator Protector! 🐝🌸 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a morning of volunteer magic at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. 🌼✨ \n\n\n\nYou can help maintain the pollinator garden at Lake Mineral Wells State Park! 🌼🦋 This wonderful community effort supports our local ecosystems and provides habitat to facilitate the important work of pollinators.  This garden provides educational information to visitors and is utilized by the park staff to explain the importance of native plants and their benefits. \n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions on clothing and what to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWork Clothing: Wear comfortable work clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are great for adjusting to changing conditions.\n\n\n\nGloves: If you have gardening gloves\, bring them along. They’ll protect your hands while working with plants and soil.\n\n\n\nGardening Tools: If you own any gardening tools\, such as nippers\, shovels\, spades\, pitchforks\, or wheelbarrows\, feel free to bring them.  Buckets and brooms are also useful. These tools can be incredibly helpful for various tasks.\n\n\n\nWater: Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep yourself refreshed during the work.\n\n\n\nHat:  A hat with a wide brim provides shade for your face\, neck\, and ears\, protecting you from direct sunlight.
