SUMMARY:Annual Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Location: Phil Hardberger Park\, 8400 NW Military Hwy\, San Antonio\, TX 78231 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOur walks’s purpose is to identify and appreciate our area wildflowers in the context of also appreciating the beauty of our natural areas and learning about where and when our wildflowers grow and their relationship to insects. \n\n\n\nJerry Morrisey\, a long-time plant identifier\, propagator\, and lover as well as a Texas Master Naturalist\, from the Native Plant Society of Texas’s San Antonio chapter will lead us along the trails of PHP and through the Demonstration Garden identifying and discussing the plethora of wildflowers enjoying our Texas spring. Jerry will specifically discuss where native wildflowers will be present in the local ecology and their interactions with pollinators. Come learn with our accomplished local expert. \n\n\n\nPlease arrive by 7:50 am to sign up so we can begin promptly at 8:00 am. We will walk along several of the trails close to the UEC where Jerry will have scouted out the most wildflowers. There will be brief explanations at the start and along the way with ample time for participant questions. \n\n\n\nMinors only when accompanied by an adult parent/guardian. Dogs allowed if leashed and socialized. DIFFICULTY: Easy\, definitely suitable for families. Flat terrain\, slow-paced. This will only be about a mile walk and last about two hours ending back at the Urban Ecology Center around 10:00 am. \n\n\n\nThe trail is a natural surface so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and\, dependent on the weather\, bring water\, sun protection\, and dress appropriate for the day and season. Suggested $3 individual or $5 family donation to the PHP Conservancy to support enhancements to the park. \n\n\n\nThis event’s general sponsors are the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy\, the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s Natural Area Office\, the Alamo Area Master Naturalists\, and the Alamo Group of the Sierra Club. The SA Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is a special sponsor. \n\n\n\nContact Stan Drezek (stanwendre@gmail.com) for additional information. \n\n\n\nLEARN MORE AND RSVP

SUMMARY:San Antonio Chapter Meeting May 2026
DESCRIPTION:Arrive at 6:30pm to share or find native plants at the Plants x Donation table. \n\n\n\nThis will be a “hybrid” meeting\, attend in-person or online. \n\n\n\n\nIn person: The Gathering Center at the Urban Ecology Center at Phil Hardberger Park\, 8400 NW Military Hwy\n\n\n\nOnline: Please register in advance to attend via Zoom.\n\n\n\n\nPresentation by Elizabeth McGreevy\, Founder and Program Director of Project BedrockMountain Cedars: Junipers that Benefit Texas Karst Country\n\n\n\nFor more than 100 years\, we’ve fought the woody brush spreading across the limestone regions of Texas called karst country. Much of this woody cover consists of native juniper trees\, commonly called mountain cedars. Instead of causing harm\, we now know mountain cedars act as ecosystem engineers to improve and sustain Texas karst country function. Come learn about these benefits and what we can do to use mountain cedars as another nature-based solution to help enhance soil health\, groundwaters\, productivity\, property values\, and resilience. \n\n\n\nIf you are attending in person\, there is no need to register. However\, if you are attending via Zoom\, please register here before the meeting begins as late registration and entry will not be allowed. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\n\n\nNote: The Zoom recording will be available within days after the meeting on our  YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Collin County June Meeting: Encouraging Native Landscapes in HOA Neighborhoods
DESCRIPTION:Our Tuesday June 2nd chapter meeting will be available to attend in person at the Heard Museum in McKinney or online via Zoom. The program will feature Diane Wetherbee presenting on “Encouraging Native Landscapes in HOA Neighborhoods”. \n\n\n\nTexas Discovery Gardens\n\n\n\nPresentation Summary\n\n\n\nWe often hear\, “My HOA won’t let me plant native plants.” The fact is\, Texas state law prohibits HOAs from disallowing water-wise landscaping but does allow them to require that landscaping fit the neighborhood’s general aesthetic. How can we encourage the use of more native plants in our community while keeping HOAs happy? \n\n\n\nAttendance Options\n\n\n\nOur meetings are free and open to the public. This is a hybrid meeting held at the Heard Museum in McKinney and virtually via Zoom. \n\n\n\n\nLocation (in-person): Laughlin Hall at the Heard Museum. Please enter through the south doors of the building.\n\n\n\nZoom Link: https://tinyurl.com/yn85nbzd – Passcode: 571904; Meeting ID: 885 5459 6572\n\n\n\nDoors and Zoom Open: 6:30 PM (for setup and connection testing)\n\n\n\nMeeting Begins: 7:00 PM\, with a brief update from Chapter President Rodney Thomas\, followed by the featured presentation.\n\n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you at our program! \n\n\n\nHeard Museum Native Garden Walk\n\n\n\nBefore the meeting\, join us for a guided walk through the Heard Gardens. Our schedule is as follows: \n\n\n\n5:45 – Begin gathering in Laughlin Hall for Garden Walk6:00 – Garden Walk begins6:45 – Garden Walk concludes \n\n\n\nAbout our Speaker\n\n\n\nDiane is a Texas Master Naturalist\, as well as a member of the Native Prairies Association of Texas and the Native Plant Society of Texas. She is a board member of the Upper Trinity Conservation Trust and also serves as vice chairman of the board of The Flower Mound Foundation\, which cares for the 12.5-acre prairie remnant that gives the town its name. Diane is a Certified Citizen Forester and is a board member of the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council. After a career in corporate communications and product marketing\, she turned to her first love – the natural world. SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. If you don’t see us at the windmill\, walk out behind the library across the creek as we’ve likely already started!  \n\n\n\nEach volunteer will be required to fill out the City of Boerne’s liability waiver the first time he or she volunteers. \n\n\n\nContact Jeff Schwarz at jeffschwarz27@gmail.com for more info.
