You can attend either in person at the Heard Museum in McKinney or virtually via Zoom.  \n\n\n\nOur speaker\, Rufus Stephens\, will be discussing how diverse and healthy native plant communities are the cornerstone of healthy wildlife habitats. Birds can be a great indicator for healthy plant communities. Recent articles have sounded the alarm about dramatic declines in bird and butterfly populations. SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. SUMMARY:Second Saturday Workday at Cibolo Nature Center Demonstration Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Generally every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm is our monthly workday in the demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center. Typical activities include planting\, weeding\, nurturing\, mulching\, caging\, etc. \n\n\n\nBring your favorite garden tools\, gloves\, sun and insect protection\, and water to drink. \n\n\n\nLearn planting techniques from an experienced native gardeners. Learn to identify native plants\, the environmental niches they normally occupy\, their use by wildlife\, and their placement in landscapes to provide a pleasing vista. Help maintain our two demonstration gardens so we can continue to educate and promote native plants to our Hill Country friends! \n\n\n\nAlso\, note that this “Second Saturday Workday” is approved as a Master Naturalist Volunteer Activity. \n\n\n\nWe maintain two demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center.   \n\n\n\nThe first demonstration garden is located by the main parking lot area\, and includes the central island and raised beds bordering the parking area. This garden is also where we teach students how to identify plants in the Native Landscape Certification Program classes. \n\n\n\nThe second demonstration garden at the Cibolo Nature Center is referred to as Bill’s Garden\, in honor of Chapter founder and garden designer\, Bill Ward.  It is located in the shaded area between the Auditorium and Administrative buildings at the Cibolo Nature Center. \n\n\n\nJoin the fun loving group that helps the CNC and NPSOT demonstrate the use of native plants in gardens! \n\n\n\nFor more information contact Veronica Hawk at veronica.hawk@gmail.com.

You will hear from projects at three sites: Ward Elementary Pollinator Garden at John F. Ward Elementary\, CLCE Pollinator Patch at Exploration Green\, and Seabrook Library Garden at Evelyn Meador Branch Library. Presenters will highlight their successes\, obstacles\, and lessons learned. \n\n\n\nAbout the Sites\n\n\n\nWard Elementary Pollinator Garden at John F. Ward Elementary (Clear Creek ISD): Ward’s school garden aims to serve as a safe haven and nursery for pollinators. And\, importantly\, will also provide context for teaching students and their families about the importance of pollinators and native plants. \n\n\n\nCLCE Pollinator Patch at Exploration Green: This collaborative project by Exploration Green Conservancy and Clear Lake City Elementary School (Clear Creek ISD) features native plants that provide nectar and pollen sources to a wide range of pollinators. The cultivated space will provide educational to students from Clear Lake City Elementary and the public. \n\n\n\nSeabrook Library Garden: This “Unintended Garden” has quickly become an inviting native plant pollinator space and a Clear Lake Chapter demonstration garden. With just a bit more work\, the garden will serve as a colorful and inspiring example for anyone interested in native gardening. \n\n\n\nIn-person – Parking Pass Required\n\n\n\nIf you have a pass\, don’t forget it – you will not get another one if you picked one up previously. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. Her responsibilities as a Rangeland Specialist have her based at the Uvalde Research and Extension Center and include providing support for Extension agents\, specialists\, clientele\, and organizations through teaching\, training\, and providing technical expertise on the management of rangeland resources. \n\n\n\nMegan’s current interests include blending wildlife habitat and livestock range management\, small acreage management\, UAV (drone) research\, brush management\, and youth natural resources education.
