Hundreds of plants to choose from so you are sure to find something you desire! SUMMARY:Plant Identification at Enchanted Rock SNA for City Nature Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Location: Enchanted Rock State Natural Area\, 16710 RR 965\, Fredericksburg\, TX \n\n\n\nThis event will concentrate on identifying the plants that are found in the granite soils of Enchanted Rock SNA to increase the biodiversity reported for the San Antonio Metro Area of the CNC. Animals will also be recorded. Teams will be formed to walk the different trails. Experienced iNat observers will be valuable but less knowledgeable participants can help find plants. Later start times can be coordinated. The meeting site for 8:30 AM arrival will be the parking lot at the check in center \n\n\n\nThere will be the option to bring a lunch and make observations in the afternoon. She is the owner of Land Steward where she produces ecosystem-based management plans for Hill Country landowners. DESCRIPTION:Habitat volunteers help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays!   \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month in 2025.  \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. DESCRIPTION:Our 25th Stiff Creek Wildflower Walk is a great opportunity for people of all ages to learn about native plants. Knowledgeable chapter members will guide and help you identify native wildflowers along our walk. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate and Start Time: May 3 @ 9:30 \n\n\n\nWhat to Wear: Long pants\, closed toe shoes\, sunscreen\, and insect repellent are recommended. \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: Camera\, wildflower guides\, binoculars\, and a brunch item to share after the walk. We plan to have brunch around noon. Please bring your brunch item ready to be served. We can keep your items hot or cold but cannot cook or heat them. \n\n\n\nDirections: 4545 CR 412\, McKinney\, TX 75071 (Brett and Brigette Laplante) \n\n\n\nFrom the intersection of Hwy 5 (N McDonald Street) and Hwy 380 in McKinney\, go east on 380 about 1 mile to Woodlawn Ave (CR 331) where there is a Circle K service station on the northeast corner. Turn left and go 2.1 miles to the end of Woodlawn. Turn left on Texas Farm Road 2933 (no sign) and go 3.5 miles to CR 412. Turn right on 412 but it is more like going straight as 2933 curves to the left. Go about 1.2 miles and turn left into the driveway at 4545 CR 412. You can park along the driveway. You will see trucks and a flatbed trailer with hay bales for the wildflower walk.

DESCRIPTION:Habitat volunteers help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. How to access it and what lies within?\n\n\n\nDelights of the new state website – cool (and useful!) new sites such as the native plant database.\n\n\n\nGaining more chapter publicity through state communications digital and print media!\n\n\n\nTips to making chapter life easier – key resources.\n\n\n\nSociety swag.\n\n\n\n\nLet’s catch up! \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:  Meg Inglis accepted the position as Executive Director in 2021. Prior to that\, she coordinated NPSOT’s Native Landscape Certification Program for 7 years. \n\n\n\nFor many years she worked in the field of environmental health and safety for medical device manufacturing facilities and other organizations.  \n\n\n\nShe has a Bachelor’s in Biology\, secondary science teaching certification\, and a Master’s in Public Administration.  \n\n\n\nMeg’s passion for native plants began in 2000 when she and her family built their home on a 2-acre parcel of land near Dripping Springs. Her knowledge of ecology and their decision to be solely dependent on a rainwater system drove their decision to restore their property with natives.  \n\n\n\nShe is a long-time member of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT)\, serving as Austin NPSOT Chapter President and other positions on the board for several years. Other favorite organizations include the Native Prairies Association of Texas and the Texas Society for Ecological Restoration. In addition\, she participated in the 2009 Hays County Texas Master Naturalist program. \n\n\n\nAbout NPSOT Boerne Meetings: Join us for our monthly chapter meetings. You do not need to be a member to attend. We meet the first Tuesday of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meetings start with a social time at 6:00pm. Wizzie is a Board-Certified Entomologist specializing in urban and structural pest management\, but also covers landscapes\, gardens\, native pollinators\, insect identification as well as other topics. SUMMARY:Field Trip: Spring Creek Parkway
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Location:  Spring Creek Parkway Trailhead (Spring Creek Parkway Trailhead at 59 in Google Maps) on the west side of US 59/I 69 in Humble\, Texas (GPS: 30.02581\, -95.263713) \n\n\n\nThings To Bring: We will likely wander off trail\, so boots/closed toe shoes and bug spray recommended. Please bring adequate hydration and other items you may require to be comfortable. We will be in full sun portions of the time\, so dress appropriately. \n\n\n\nField Trip Overview: This portion of the Spring Creek trail is situated on an old Spring Creek depositional feature and contains deep sands. We will walk and look for openings in the forested portions of the trail for areas that contain bluejack oak (Quercus incana)\, post oak (Q. stellata)\, tropic croton (Croton glandulosa)\, Reverchon’s spiderwort (Tradescantia reverchonii)\, slender scratch daisy (Croptilon divaricatum)\, viperina (Zornia bracteata) and other deep sand specialists. We will then walk off trail to seepage slopes dominated by netted chain fern (Woodwardia areolata)\, royal fern (Osmunda regalis)\, and Kunth’s maiden fern (Thelypteris kunthii). This area also contains some other interesting species such primrose-leaved violet (Viola primulifolia)\, greater marsh St. Johnswort (Hypericum walteri)\, and several uncommon sedges (Carex and Eleocharis species). We will then explore some floodplain/bottomland forested communities dominated by bald cypress (Taxodium distichum)\, water oak (Q. nigra)\, willow oak (Q. phellos)\, cherrybark oak (Q. pagoda)\, American elm (Ulmus americana)\, green ash (Fraxinus pennslyvanica)\, and sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua). Two-winged silverbell (Halesia diptera) should be in full bloom in the understory.
