DESCRIPTION:Habitat volunteers help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. DESCRIPTION:We are excited to have natural resources planner and ecologist Elizabeth McGreevy present at our Tuesday February 4th chapter meeting! \n\n\n\nFor 100 years\, we’ve fought the woody brush that spreads across limestone regions of Texas called karst country.  Much of this woody cover consists of mountain cedars\, a type of juniper that prefers limestone. Instead of causing harm\, we now know mountain cedars are benefitting the region since they regenerate degraded karst country or sustain groundwaters\, healthy soils\, deep carbon storage\, biodiversity\, while reducing fire risk and flooding. You will learn why we need to use mountain cedars and other nature-based solutions to help regenerate and protect these lands.  \n\n\n\nElizabeth McGreevy\, a sixth-generation Texas and Texas A&M graduate\, is a natural resources ecologist and author of the book “Wanted! Mountain Cedars\, Dead and Alive“. As the owner of Land Steward\, she relies on more than 25 years of experience to produce site-specific ecosystem management plans for Hill Country landowners. In 2022\, she founded Project Bedrock\, now in partnership with The Watershed Association\, to promote using mountain cedars and other nature-based solutions to regenerate the limestone karst country regions of Texas.

She teaches beginning backyard birding classes and gives talks about Central Texas birds and gardening in the Austin community. Jane teaches a Birds of Central Texas class for the local non-profit Lifetime Learning Institute. DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays!   \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month in 2025.  \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. Since then\, new climate change research has been published. This time\, Andy will focus on the anticipated effects on specific plants and potential changes to native plant communities. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAndrew Sipocz earned a Bachelor of Science in forestry and wildlife management at Purdue University and a master’s studying wetland ecology from Texas A&M University. He has been with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department since 1990 where he now plans and implements landscape restoration and natural area management in southeast Texas state parks. \n\n\n\n\nIn-person – Parking Pass Required\n\n\n\nIf you have a pass\, don’t forget it – you will not get another one if you picked one up previously. SUMMARY:Seed Cleaning Event at the Tye Preston Memorial Library
DESCRIPTION:Craig Bruska\, Seed Committee Chairman\, directs volunteers in cleaning and packaging replacement seed packets for the current lending inventory.  The properly labeled envelopes are then placed in specific drawers of the TPML Seed Library cabinet located in the main entry foyer of the library. A great chance to learn more about native seeds and visit with like-minded volunteers.  Master Naturalists earn volunteer hours!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn open invitation is extended for anyone to: \n\n\n\n1) Donate local native seeds.  To donate\, put a single species of prepared seeds in a small paper bag and label the bag with species name\, date collected and where collected. Donor’s name is optional. \n\n\n\n2) Help package seeds for the lending library.  Volunteer help is welcomed; and Texas Master Naturalists can earn hours toward their annual 40 hours of volunteer service.  \n\n\n\n3) Check out and plant up to 5 seed packets per visit to Tye Preston Memorial Library.

DESCRIPTION:🌿 Calling All Native Plant Enthusiasts! 🌿  Be a Pollinator Protector! 🐝🌸 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a morning of volunteer magic at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. 🌼✨ \n\n\n\nYou can help maintain the pollinator garden at Lake Mineral Wells State Park! 🌼🦋 This wonderful community effort supports our local ecosystems and provides habitat to facilitate the important work of pollinators.  This garden provides educational information to visitors and is utilized by the park staff to explain the importance of native plants and their benefits. \n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions on clothing and what to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWork Clothing: Wear comfortable work clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are great for adjusting to changing conditions.\n\n\n\nGloves: If you have gardening gloves\, bring them along. They’ll protect your hands while working with plants and soil.\n\n\n\nGardening Tools: If you own any gardening tools\, such as nippers\, shovels\, spades\, pitchforks\, or wheelbarrows\, feel free to bring them.  Buckets and brooms are also useful. These tools can be incredibly helpful for various tasks.\n\n\n\nWater: Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep yourself refreshed during the work.\n\n\n\nHat:  A hat with a wide brim provides shade for your face\, neck\, and ears\, protecting you from direct sunlight.
