SUMMARY:What Happened to that Plant? Fredericksburg Chapter meeting Oct 28
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to reflect on what happened in your landscape this year as you head into prime native planting season. Arlon Motsch\, an avid native plant gardener\, photographer\, and water conservationist will share his insights about “what happened to that plant?!” What worked\, what didn’t\, and then there are the few plants that need more time to tell. \n\n\n\n\n“I’ve done a lot of things wrong and a few things right since moving to the Hill Country. It’s an ongoing journey of finding out what works and what doesn’t. Learning\,” he said\, “has come from many local sources like NPSOT\, friends\, friendly neighbors\, nature centers\, gardening programs\, and just hands-on getting it done.” \n\n\n\n\nThere will be some useful nuggets of information for just about everyone\, from the apartment balcony gardener to those that can’t see the end of their ”yard.” \n\n\n\nMisty morning

SUMMARY:San Antonio Chapter Meeting October 2025
DESCRIPTION:Arrive at 6:30pm to share or find native plants at the Plants x Donation table. \n\n\n\nThis will be a “hybrid” meeting\, attend in-person or online. \n\n\n\n\nIn person: The Gathering Center at the Urban Ecology Center at Phil Hardberger Park\, 8400 NW Military Hwy\n\n\n\nOnline: Please register in advance to attend via Zoom.\n\n\n\n\nPresentation by Monika MaecklePlants with Purpose\n\n\n\nCan you eat it? Make tea from it? Does it serve wildlife? Does it taste good or provide a health benefit? Is it low maintenance? Does it have a fun story? Does it provide a unique landscape service? Oh\, and is it attractive? \n\n\n\nThese are the questions Monika Maeckle asked of each plant upon assembling my new book Plants with Purpose: Twenty-five Ecosystem Multitaskers. To qualify\, the plant had to answer YES to at least three besides attractiveness. \n\n\n\nBeauty alone is no longer reason enough to choose a plant that will occupy valuable real estate in your landscape. We owe functional plants–plants that do more than look good–to the ecosystem. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a presentation/discussion about choosing plants that go beyond beauty and actually give back to the ecosystem. Books available for purchase and author autograph. \n\n\n\nIf you are attending in person\, there is no need to register. However\, if you are attending via Zoom\, please register here before the meeting begins as late registration and entry will not be allowed. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\n\n\nNote: The Zoom recording will be available within days after the meeting on our  YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Rescheduled: Austin Chapter Native Plant Sale
DESCRIPTION:Due to severe storms forecasted during our original plant sale date (October 25)\, the plant sale has been rescheduled to be Sunday\, November 2 from 10am to 2pm. \n\n\n\nThe Austin Chapter’s Fall Native Plant Sale will be held at the Dowell Ranch Preserve\, part of the Native Prairie Association of Texas\, 301 Farm to Market 1626\, Manchaca\, TX 78652 \n\n\n\nWe focus on selling plants native to the ecoregions here in Austin. They are great choices for your yard\, patio\, or other habitat. These plants support local and migrating wildlife\, and require less water that many non-natives. \n\n\n\nIt is quite a joy to see your space full of native bees\, butterflies and birds thanks to native plants. Add your native gardens and other native habitats to the Homegrown National Park map and help represent NPSOT Austin and Texas going native! \n\n\n\nYou are welcome to bring nursery pots in good condition from 4″ to 10 gallon and trays for our NPSOT members to use to grow plants for our fall sale. \n\n\n\nPlants will be arranged by plant form category (trees\, shrub\, grasses\, etc) and within the category in alphabetical order by scientific name.  So order your shopping lists accordingly! Our plant sale page has the list of plants that should be available and the first list with photos is arranged similarly to the plant categories we will use at the sale. \n\n\n\nWe are so grateful to the Native Prairies Association of Texas for allowing us to hold the sale at Dowell Ranch.
