SUMMARY:Habitat Workday @ EIH
DESCRIPTION:Habitat volunteers help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. Volunteers may also help clean out the pond on select work days. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary—we’ll show you what goes and what stays\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. NPSOT-Wilco board members will be on hand to chat about current projects and committees. \n\n\n\nAbout our featured topic:   The Texabama Croton is a rare but beautiful species of shrub in the Euphorbiaceae family known from small areas of Texas and Alabama. There are numerous oddities about the plant\, such as its habitat and range\, discovery\, and lack of cultivation. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will shed light on what makes the Texabama Croton a botanical enigma and some important lessons with vast implications for Central Texas ecosystems that can be gleaned by studying the plant. \n\n\n\nAbout our guest speaker:   Tyson Bartlett is a self-taught native plant enthusiast who serves as a Director at Large on the board of directors for the Williamson County Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas. He is also a member of the Good Water Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists and started the Williamson County Nature Journaling Club to promote the appreciation of nature through art and observation. DESCRIPTION:🌿 Calling All Native Plant Enthusiasts! 🌿  Be a Pollinator Protector! 🐝🌸 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a morning of volunteer magic at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. 🌼✨ \n\n\n\nYou can help maintain the pollinator garden at Lake Mineral Wells State Park! 🌼🦋 This wonderful community effort supports our local ecosystems and provides habitat to facilitate the important work of pollinators.  This garden provides educational information to visitors and is utilized by the park staff to explain the importance of native plants and their benefits. \n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions on clothing and what to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWork Clothing: Wear comfortable work clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are great for adjusting to changing conditions.\n\n\n\nGloves: If you have gardening gloves\, bring them along. They’ll protect your hands while working with plants and soil.\n\n\n\nGardening Tools: If you own any gardening tools\, such as nippers\, shovels\, spades\, pitchforks\, or wheelbarrows\, feel free to bring them.  Buckets and brooms are also useful. These tools can be incredibly helpful for various tasks.\n\n\n\nWater: Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep yourself refreshed during the work.\n\n\n\nHat:  A hat with a wide brim provides shade for your face\, neck\, and ears\, protecting you from direct sunlight.
