SUMMARY:Garden Installation at the Alazan-Apache Courts
DESCRIPTION:NPSOT member Shannon Jackson is leading the effort to install a shade garden at the Alazan-Apache Community Center to beautify the grounds and inspire nearby residents.  Shannon has scheduled three workdays:  Monday\, Nov. 10\, Thursday\, Nov. 13\, and Monday\, Nov. 17 from 9 am to 1 pm  each day.  If you cannot stay the whole 4 hours\, come for as long as you can.  Just make a note of this under “my comment” when you sign up. \n\n\n\nWe will be installing bed edging and doing other prep work on Day 1. You will be glad to know that this is a shady spot with two mature live oaks\, so there is primarily bare ground\, and only a small amount of dormant or dead grass to remove around the edges. The few existing plants next to the building will remain. The bed edging will only need to be installed on one side as the rest of the bed is edged by concrete sidewalks and pads.  If all goes as planned\, on days 2 and 3 we will be planting around 100 four-inch pots and 30 one-gallon pots.   \n\n\n\nIf your schedule allows\, please consider signing up to help one or more days. You can sign up here:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A45AAAB2BA3FAC43-59959685-nov2025 \n\n\n\nThe Alazan-Apache Courts Community Center is located at 1011 S. Brazos Street.  We will be at the back of the building. \n\n\n\nAs always\, we can’t do these projects without you\, our faithful volunteers!   \n\n\n\nPam Peck\, Volunteer CoordinatorNPSOT – San Antonio Chapter

SUMMARY:Just Enough Latin To Go Plant Shopping with Carol Clark - Austin Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our next Austin Chapter meeting will be tomorrow\, Tuesday\, November 18 at 7PM (with social time at 6:30PM). \n\n\n\nLocation: Lakewood Clubhouse at 7317 Lakewood Dr\, Austin\, TX 78750.The meeting will have a Zoom hybrid option as well. See below for registration link.Carol Clark will be presenting “Just Enough Latin To Go Plant Shopping.” \n\n\n\nThe scientific names of plants might seem like a giant pain to learn\, but they carry more useful information than you might think. Learning just a few common roots for form\, size\, color\, origins\, shape and habitat can help you decipher those names and choose the right plant for the right place\, save you time and money\, and lead to a whole new avenue of enjoyment in your gardening life. We’ll keep it fun and simple\, so don’t let your fear of Latin keep you away. (Reference handouts included.)Carol Clark is an amateur botany enthusiast\, a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist\, a Texas Master Naturalist\, and longtime member of the Native Plant Society of Texas. She and her husband own and operate Clark Haven\, a wildlife preserve and custom wildflower seed business in Cooke County.  She has been messing about with plants ever since she can remember. Her favorite things to do are leading discovery walks in local natural areas\, and finding and photographing interesting plants. You are welcome to bring seeds to swap and optionally a dish or beverage to share! \n\n\n\nIf you are joining us on Zoom\, please register before the meeting to get the link sent to you.

SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. If you don’t see us at the windmill\, walk out behind the library across the creek as we’ve likely already started!  \n\n\n\nEach volunteer will be required to fill out the City of Boerne’s liability waiver the first time he or she volunteers. \n\n\n\nContact Jeff Schwarz at jeffschwarz27@gmail.com for more info.

SUMMARY:Annual Native Plant/Seed Swap and Potluck - November 20
DESCRIPTION:Before you start all of your Thanksgiving festivities\, join us for one of favorite annual events! If you have native plants\, you likely have some new seedlings that have popped up\, clumps that need to be divided\, and seed heads to collect. Gather them up and trade them for some new species! This is always a fun event. What’s better than free plants\, right? \n\n\n\nPlease only bring specimens that are locally native to Harris County or the Gulf Coast ecoregion and label them if you can. You can also bring other useful plant-related materials you don’t need any more like books or tools. \n\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to network with your fellow NPSOT-H members\, meet the board\, and enjoy time with other native plant enthusiasts. We hope you can join us! We will be providing Star Pizza; please bring your favorite sharable dish for the meal if you are able. \n\n\n\nNote that we are starting earlier to allow extra time for the dinner. If you don’t have plants or food to share\, please come anyway! \n\n\n\nHere is a rough outline of our schedule for the evening. \n\n\n\n\n6:00 pm – Set-up plants and seeds/social time\n\n\n\n6:30 pm – Potluck dinner\n\n\n\n7:00 pm – Announcements\n\n\n\n7:15 pm – Election\n\n\n\n7:20 pm – Plant talks\n\n\n\n8:00-8:30 pm – Plant & seed swap\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur monthly chapter meetings are held on every 3rd Thursday\, January – November.
