SUMMARY:Tuesday Workday at EIH
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to propagate native plants while helping grow plants for the chapter’s plant sales. Activities include starting plants from seeds\, cuttings\, and other methods\, as well as making labels\, mixing soil\, and prepping growing trays. \n\n\n\nHabitat volunteers may also help weed and mulch flower beds\, plant native plants\, maintain pathways\, and trim trees and bushes. \n\n\n\n\nNo experience necessary\n\n\n\nBring your own tools or use ours (we have gloves too)\n\n\n\nDon’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle\, hat\, and sunscreen!\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers must be 18 or older to participate in EIH’s workdays unless prior arrangements have been made. \n\n\n\nWe do not hold workdays when the university is officially closed. Also\, workdays are canceled during inclement weather\, though a light sprinkle or drizzle rarely keeps us out of the garden. DESCRIPTION:Hey y’all! \n\n\n\nJoin us on a field trip to Waterloo Park in the heart of the city. \n\n\n\nThis field trip will be in two parts. The first hour is just the tour and that is ADA compliant. So anyone that wants to join can! The second hour is going to focus on doing some invasive managing (we will be pulling invasives) around the park. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to just take the tour all you have to do is show up\, fill out the NPSOT waiver\, and enjoy the tour. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to also do the working part of the tour you will have to fill out the NPSOT waiver\, the Waterloo waiver\, and come dress appropriately to get to work. \n\n\n\nWhat to wear/bring: Closed toed shoes\, long pants(prefered)\, water bottle\, hat\, sunscreen\, gloves\, hand pruners\, kneeling pads(if desired)\, and to dress appropriately for the weather.  \n\n\n\nParking: Capitol Visitors Parking Garage located at the corner of Trinity St and 12th St has free parking for the first 2 hours\, paid after that. There is paid street parking available on 12th st between Red River and Trinity and on 13th & 14th between San Jacinto and Trinity St.  \n\n\n\nIf you are not able to attend this date\, Waterloo is also having some cut back (pruning) volunteer days coming up as well: Feb 9\,11\,13\,17\,19\,23\,25 12:30-3:00pm. Through close-up images and quiet moments in the field\, she invites people to slow down and see these tiny creatures with curiosity and amazement. Mika is a Texas Master Naturalist and volunteers with projects such as native bee monitoring and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center fauna survey. DESCRIPTION:Generally every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm is our monthly workday in the demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center. Typical activities include planting\, weeding\, nurturing\, mulching\, caging\, etc. \n\n\n\nBring your favorite garden tools\, gloves\, sun and insect protection\, and water to drink. \n\n\n\nLearn planting techniques from an experienced native gardeners. Learn to identify native plants\, the environmental niches they normally occupy\, their use by wildlife\, and their placement in landscapes to provide a pleasing vista. Help maintain our two demonstration gardens so we can continue to educate and promote native plants to our Hill Country friends! \n\n\n\nAlso\, note that this “Second Saturday Workday” is approved as a Master Naturalist Volunteer Activity. \n\n\n\nWe maintain two demonstration gardens at the Cibolo Nature Center.   \n\n\n\nThe first demonstration garden is located by the main parking lot area\, and includes the central island and raised beds bordering the parking area. This garden is also where we teach students how to identify plants in the Native Landscape Certification Program classes. \n\n\n\nThe second demonstration garden at the Cibolo Nature Center is referred to as Bill’s Garden\, in honor of Chapter founder and garden designer\, Bill Ward.  It is located in the shaded area between the Auditorium and Administrative buildings at the Cibolo Nature Center. \n\n\n\nJoin the fun loving group that helps the CNC and NPSOT demonstrate the use of native plants in gardens! \n\n\n\nFor more information contact Veronica Hawk at veronica.hawk@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:Spruce Up Days\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery 2nd Saturday we are planning to meet at the PPMSP Headquarters to spruce up the plant beds. This will be the first meet up and so I am asking for sign-up. The plan is for us to spread mulch\, and some weeding since the beds are new. \n\n\n\nBring buckets\, shovels\, hand trowels\, rakes\, gloves\, and sun protection. Please clean them (Master Gardeners wipe them down with bleach) before heading to the park to keep the spread of disease down.
