SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. If you don’t see us at the windmill\, walk out behind the library across the creek as we’ve likely already started!  \n\n\n\nEach volunteer will be required to fill out the City of Boerne’s liability waiver the first time he or she volunteers. \n\n\n\nContact Jeff Schwarz at jeffschwarz27@gmail.com for more info.

SUMMARY:Ancient Dune Swales: An Ode to the Coastal HeritagePreserve - February 19
DESCRIPTION:Often overlooked\, the native plants of our Gulf Coast play a major role in habitat restoration while quite literally holding all of us along the coast together. This presentation will dive into the science behind a diverse set of plants native to the Gulf Coast and zoom in specifically on those that inhabit Galveston Island’s ancient dune swale complex. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\nLyndsey Ware is an eighth generation Texan with deep roots sunk into the Gulf Coast mud from South Texas to New Orleans\, Ware has been talking to and falling in love with plants all her life. While on a brief hiatus away from her native habitat\, she went back to school and earned a Plant and Soil Science (w/conservation and agricultural horticultural focus) degree from the University of Massachusetts. She has worked the land from an early age\, managed greenhouses\, farms\, and labs\, conducted research as a member of the UMass Extension team\, and often acted as a liaison between growers and academia\, agriculturists and conservationists. While away\, her longing for the Texas and Louisiana ecologies she calls home grew. Upon return to the Lone Star State\, Ware managed Green Star Wetland Plant Farm where she learned more about her beloved hydrophytes that helped her dad navigate duck marshes that he dragged her to as a girl. She then became the Conservation Horticulturist at Houston Botanic Garden before landing her ‘dream job’ stewarding 1\,039 acres of wetlands and prairies\, working with a plethora of unique plants at Artist Boat’s Coastal Heritage Preserve. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur monthly chapter meetings are held on every 3rd Thursday\, January – November. Our meetings are free and open to the public thanks to our members and sponsors. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will start at 7:00 pm\, but come at 6:45 pm for a meet and greet with snacks. \n\n\n\nHouston Arboretum and Nature Center \n\n\n\n610 Entrance (preferred)120 W Loop N FwyHouston\, TX 77024 \n\n\n\nWoodway Entrance4501 Woodway DriveHouston\, TX 77024 \n\n\n\nMeetings will also be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReturn to Houston Chapter Page

SUMMARY:Lake Mineral Wells State Park Pollinator Garden Work Day\, Volunteer Opportunity\, Cross Timbers Chapter\, Mineral Wells\, Saturday\, 2/21/2026 at 10 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:🌿 Calling All Native Plant Enthusiasts! 🌿  Be a Pollinator Protector! 🐝🌸 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a morning of volunteer magic at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. 🌼✨ \n\n\n\nYou can help maintain the pollinator garden at Lake Mineral Wells State Park! 🌼🦋 This wonderful community effort supports our local ecosystems and provides habitat to facilitate the important work of pollinators. This garden provides educational information to visitors and is utilized by the park staff to explain the importance of native plants and their benefits. \n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions on clothing and what to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWork Clothing: Wear comfortable work clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are great for adjusting to changing conditions.\n\n\n\nGloves: If you have gardening gloves\, bring them along. They’ll protect your hands while working with plants and soil.\n\n\n\nGardening Tools: If you own any gardening tools\, such as nippers\, shovels\, spades\, pitchforks\, or wheelbarrows\, feel free to bring them. Buckets and brooms are also useful. These tools can be incredibly helpful for various tasks.\n\n\n\nWater: Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep yourself refreshed during the work.\n\n\n\nHat:  A hat with a wide brim provides shade for your face\, neck\, and ears\, protecting you from direct sunlight. It helps prevent sunburn and reduces the risk of skin damage caused by UV radiation.  In case of cooler weather\, wear a hat to keep warm.\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Details: \n\n\n\n\nIf the temperature is below 40°F or if it’s raining\, the workday will be canceled. \n\n\n\nFor any specific questions or further information\, you can reach out to Cindy Crump at cindyleecrump@gmail.com or Vicki Brooks at vicki.brooks@icloud.com\n\n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\n\nLake Mineral Wells State Park\, 100 Park Road 71\, Mineral Wells\, Texas.\n\n\n\nBefore entering the park gates\, take a left into the administration building parking lot.\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Point: \n\n\n\n\nMeet at the garden located near the administration building entrance (before paying at the gate).\n\n\n\n\nLet’s come together and contribute to the beauty and health of our local environment! 🌿🌸 \n\n\n\nVolunteer hours count towards Texas Master Naturalist and Texas Master Gardeners.
