SUMMARY:Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA) Workday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for BCCNA workdays! \n\n\n\nThe BCCNA project involves the restoration and enhancement of the Boerne City Campus Natural Area (BCCNA). The BCCNA is comprised of 13-acres on either side of the Old No. 9 Trail\, behind the library. We are working towards restoring this area to a native pollinator habitat\, creating a wildlife corridor and haven within the city. \n\n\n\nBCCNA Workdays take place on the first and third Thursdays of each month. \n\n\n\nOur meeting place will be in the Boerne Patrick Heath Public Library parking lot near the windmill. If you don’t see us at the windmill\, walk out behind the library across the creek as we’ve likely already started!  \n\n\n\nEach volunteer will be required to fill out the City of Boerne’s liability waiver the first time he or she volunteers. \n\n\n\nContact Jeff Schwarz at jeffschwarz27@gmail.com for more info.

SUMMARY:Native Solutions: Real-World Restoration Stories and the Impact of Local Plants
DESCRIPTION:Native plant communities throughout the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed have been on the decline as open green space is rapidly being lost to urban sprawl\, industrial land use\, and poor land management practices. The loss of biodiversity threatens the overall health of our bay system and its ability to provide habitat for wildlife. Local resources for native plant material adapted to our harsh coastal environment are difficult to find\, forcing consumers to purchase material from non-local sources that lack the genetic adaptations to thrive in our coastal ecosystems. \n\n\n\nTo address these challenges\, the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) operates a Native Plant Program that supplies native plant resources for landscape-scale restoration projects. These resources are available to conservation and restoration practitioners\, as well as residential homeowners seeking to utilize native plants in their home landscaping. Through this program\, GBF has implemented a variety of restoration projects across its conservation properties. \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, GBF will share both successful and unsuccessful stories from these restoration efforts\, illustrating how the Native Plant Program has contributed to the recovery of local plant communities and highlighting lessons learned along the way. These real-world examples will demonstrate the importance of using locally adapted native plants and the impact of restoration work on the health and resilience of the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRicci Simmons is the Conservation Stewardship Manager at the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF). She has a B.S. in Wildlife Fisheries Sciences and in Rangeland Ecology Management from Texas A&M University\, in addition to an M.S. in Hydrology from Boise State University. Her responsibility at GBF is to promote high species diversity\, improve hydrologic function\, and increase wildlife habitat through vegetation management on protected lands that are sensitive to the health of Galveston Bay.She also oversees monitoring of GBF’s properties using the Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices\, and manages an upland native plant and emergent freshwater wetland nurseries. Ricci spends most of her free time enjoying the outdoors with her family and especially loves collecting and pressing botanical specimens. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOur monthly chapter meetings are held on every 3rd Thursday\, January – November. Our meetings are free and open to the public thanks to our members and sponsors. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will start at 7:00 pm\, but come at 6:45 pm for a meet and greet with snacks. \n\n\n\nHouston Arboretum and Nature Center \n\n\n\n610 Entrance (preferred)120 W Loop N FwyHouston\, TX 77024 \n\n\n\nWoodway Entrance4501 Woodway DriveHouston\, TX 77024 \n\n\n\n(Parking is free at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center on Thursdays.) \n\n\n\nMeetings will also be live-streamed and recorded for later viewing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReturn to Houston Chapter Page

SUMMARY:Lake Mineral Wells State Park Pollinator Garden Work Day\, Volunteer Opportunity\, Cross Timbers Chapter\, Mineral Wells\, Saturday\, 3/21/2026 at 10 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:🌿 Calling All Native Plant Enthusiasts! 🌿  Be a Pollinator Protector! 🐝🌸 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a morning of volunteer magic at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. 🌼✨ \n\n\n\nYou can help maintain the pollinator garden at Lake Mineral Wells State Park! 🌼🦋 This wonderful community effort supports our local ecosystems and provides habitat to facilitate the important work of pollinators. This garden provides educational information to visitors and is utilized by the park staff to explain the importance of native plants and their benefits. \n\n\n\nHere are some suggestions on clothing and what to bring: \n\n\n\n\nWork Clothing: Wear comfortable work clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are great for adjusting to changing conditions.\n\n\n\nGloves: If you have gardening gloves\, bring them along. They’ll protect your hands while working with plants and soil.\n\n\n\nGardening Tools: If you own any gardening tools\, such as nippers\, shovels\, spades\, pitchforks\, or wheelbarrows\, feel free to bring them. Buckets and brooms are also useful. These tools can be incredibly helpful for various tasks.\n\n\n\nWater: Stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle to keep yourself refreshed during the work.\n\n\n\nHat:  A hat with a wide brim provides shade for your face\, neck\, and ears\, protecting you from direct sunlight. It helps prevent sunburn and reduces the risk of skin damage caused by UV radiation.  In case of cooler weather\, wear a hat to keep warm.\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Details: \n\n\n\n\nIf the temperature is below 40°F or if it’s raining\, the workday will be canceled. \n\n\n\nFor any specific questions or further information\, you can reach out to Cindy Crump at cindyleecrump@gmail.com or Vicki Brooks at vicki.brooks@icloud.com\n\n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\n\nLake Mineral Wells State Park\, 100 Park Road 71\, Mineral Wells\, Texas.\n\n\n\nBefore entering the park gates\, take a left into the administration building parking lot.\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Point: \n\n\n\n\nMeet at the garden located near the administration building entrance (before paying at the gate).\n\n\n\n\nLet’s come together and contribute to the beauty and health of our local environment! 🌿🌸 \n\n\n\nVolunteer hours count towards Texas Master Naturalist and Texas Master Gardeners.
