Black Sunday on April 14, 1935, was the single worst day of dust storms during the Dust Bowl days.
Today that terrible day of dust is being remembered with a special edition of the Reverchon Naturalist newsletter, published by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. There are several stories about the dust bowl including an article featuring Doris Crownover whose memories are still vivid of that day. Be sure to click on the video links to hear Doris’s words about those days and to see maps produced by a 1935-36 dust bowl soil survey team of which Ralph Schwartz was a member. Read the story about Ralph’s history with the dust bowl survey and his career with the Soil Conservation Service.
