Planning is still underway for our Conservation and Climate Change symposium on October 14-15 in Glen Rose. A tentative schedule is now available on the symposium website and will be updated as more details become available.
The symposium will be held on a Friday and Saturday at the Somervell County Expo Center in Glen Rose, and will include speakers, workshops, awards, and field trips. Traditional events such as a silent auction and contests will also be included. The registration pricing has not yet been set.
Although there is not a hotel connected to the Expo Center, several hotels are within walking distance. Bed and breakfasts and cabins are also available. The Glen Rose Convention and Visitors Bureau has a list. Other events are scheduled in the area on the same weekend so it is best to secure lodging early if needed.
Symposium registrants are invited to participate in the Welcome the Monarch Field Day on the afternoon of Thursday, October 13. This will be a groundbreaking and presentation for the Monarch waystation planted at the Interstate 35 safety rest area in Hill County. Not only will attendees have the opportunity to help plant the waystation, they can also visit staffed outreach booths and exhibits that will be set up for the occasion. A similar event with exhibits is planned for the Sunday morning after the symposium for homeward-bound motorists. A committee headed by Kay Jenkins is making plans for both events at the waystation.
