RANDY JOHNSON WILL TALK ON SOIL HEALTH/SOIL BIOLOGY
AUGUST 24, 6:30 p.m.
The Prairie Rose Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is hosting a virtual presentation by Randy Johnson (aka Organic Randy) on Monday evening August 24. Randy will talk about soil health and soil biology. Soil health is vital to everything growing, whether it’s your flower bed, yard, garden, pasture or field. Randy will discuss foundation organisms such as bacteria, protozoa, nematodes, soil mites, fungi, earthworms, etc.
Randy Johnson graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. His business, Randy Johnson Organics, offers native plants and seeds for sale as well as offering on-site environmental consultations. Randy was formerly the Horticulture Manager at the Dallas Zoo and the Director of Horticulture at Texas Discovery Gardens. He is a board member of Peckerwood Gardens in Hempstead, Texas, and is the Garden Consultant for the Lake Highland Community Garden. He has served as the President and Vice President of the Dallas Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
You will also receive a link for the zoom meeting. If you’re unfamiliar with Zoom some basic instructions are included below:
ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS:
1. If using a computer there is no need to download this application. Any brand of computer or smartphone will work. If using a phone, Zoom will walk you through what needs to be done. All you need to do is click on the link sent to you.
2. Sometime before the meeting, click on the link. It will take you to Zoom where you can test your audio and mic. Also, this will alert you if there is a conflict or problem with your virus protection. When you check into the meeting you should still test your audio and mic.
3. Please plan on joining the meeting about 10 minutes early, around 6:20. You will be placed in a waiting room where the host will enable you to join the meeting.
4. All participants will be muted during the presentation. You can do this yourself by moving your mouse arrow to the bottom of the screen and pulling up the toolbar (if it isn’t there try the top of the screen). On a phone, tap the screen. On the toolbar you’ll see several important items:
a. Mute button – please mute your PC. You can unmute if you have a question and are called upon. You can also unmute and mute your audio by going to the picture of your face.
b. Please turn off (STOP) video. This presentation will be via audio and PowerPoint. Zoom will run smoother this way. If you ask questions, you can always start the video at that time if you wish.
c. You can enable your chat function from the toolbar. This allows you to type in a question or make a comment. Once you’ve typed in your question on the bottom of the chat bar hit return and it will send it.
d. You have another option to ask a question. If you look at the toolbar there is a participants button. If you click on that button it will pull up a screen that shows you a hand and yes and no buttons.
If they don’t appear hit the 3 dots (…)on that line and it will pull up the hand. You can click on this hand to show you have a question or comment.
