Candidates were announced for open positions on the State Board at the quarterly meeting in New Braunfels.
The Nominating Committee proposed a slate that includes Theresa Thomas for VP Administration; Deedy Wright for VP Education; and Suzanne Tuttle for VP Environmental Liaison. No other candidates have been nominated; however write-in candidates will be permitted.
An election will be held by online ballot during the month of September and results will be announced during the annual meeting in Glen Rose on October 15. Members will receive complete instructions for voting in the next issue of our magazine and by email.
Theresa is the current VP Administration and is permitted to be re-elected according to our bylaws. Theresa has been a member of the Society since 2010 and previously served as president of the North Central Chapter. She is a coordinator of the native plant garden at Southwestern Hulen Public Library in Fort Worth. She also serves as the State Coordinator for NICE! Native Plant Partners
Deedy is also an incumbent and is eligible for re-election. Deedy has been a member of the Society since 1993. She has previously served as president of the San Antonio Chapter and also the Guadalupe Chapter which she helped organize. She helped organize a joint NICE! Program for Guadalupe and Lindheimer chapters. She also serves on the Publications Committee.
Suzanne Tuttle is nominated to fill a vacant position on the board. Suzanne recently retired after 23 years with the Ft Worth Nature Center, including 11 years as general manager. She has been a member of the Society since 1992 and previously served as president of the North Central Chapter. She served on the State Board as Vice President Finance in 1997-1999. She has also been an instructor in the Native Landscape Certification Program.
