Our digital photo contest for members will open for entries on July 1.
We will have twelve categories to honor the diversity of our state and our membership, one category per ecoregion (see level III ecoregion map):
- Arizona/New Mexico Mountains
- Central Texas Great Plains
- Chihuahuan Deserts
- Cross Timbers
- East Central Texas Plains
- Edwards Plateau
- Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes
- High Plains
- Southern Texas Plains
- Southwestern Tablelands
- Texas Blackland Prairie
- Western Gulf Coastal Plain
Photo contest will be open for online entries July 1 to July 31. Contestant must be current member of the Native Plant Society of Texas. To submit photo, contestant must provide:
- Name (first, last)
- Membership number (printed on newsletter label or available by contacting state office)
- Geographic location where photo was taken. General descriptions (ex: Bastrop State Park) are preferred, but lat./long. coordinates are acceptable for areas that cannot be easily defined.
- Scientific name of at least one plant native to that ecoregion, which is shown in photo
- Email address for contact by photo contest committee
Upload your photos using this online form. One photo per person per ecoregion allowed. All photographers must submit their own photos. Photos may have been taken at any time. Photos must include at least one plant native to that ecoregion, and the photo must be submitted in the category of the ecoregion in which it was taken. Photo may not include any identifiable invasive species or recognizable exotic plants. Photo may not have been previously published in any format, including social media. Entries submitted in the incorrect geographic category may be assigned to correct category by photo contest committee. By entering photo in contest, contestant permits Native Plant Society of Texas unlimited publication rights including rights to publish in items to be sold, such as a calendar. Contestants retain rights to publish photographs entered, but agrees not to publish any photo entered in contest until after final date of 2019 fall symposium.
Photo contest voting will be conducted from September 1 to September 30. Every member will be allowed one vote per ecoregion. Membership number and name are required to vote. For membership categories other than individual membership, each person covered by that membership will be allowed to vote once, one vote per ecoregion. Any voter found to have attempted to vote more than once will have all votes disqualified. One winning contestant per each category will be announced at 2019 fall symposium in League City.
