November 17 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
NPSOT member Shannon Jackson is leading the effort to install a shade garden at the Alazan-Apache Community Center to beautify the grounds and inspire nearby residents. Shannon has scheduled three workdays: Monday, Nov. 10, Thursday, Nov. 13, and Monday, Nov. 17 from 9 am to 1 pm each day. If you cannot stay the whole 4 hours, come for as long as you can. Just make a note of this under “my comment” when you sign up.
We will be installing bed edging and doing other prep work on Day 1. You will be glad to know that this is a shady spot with two mature live oaks, so there is primarily bare ground, and only a small amount of dormant or dead grass to remove around the edges. The few existing plants next to the building will remain. The bed edging will only need to be installed on one side as the rest of the bed is edged by concrete sidewalks and pads. If all goes as planned, on days 2 and 3 we will be planting around 100 four-inch pots and 30 one-gallon pots.
If your schedule allows, please consider signing up to help one or more days. You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A45AAAB2BA3FAC43-59959685-nov2025
The Alazan-Apache Courts Community Center is located at 1011 S. Brazos Street. We will be at the back of the building.
As always, we can’t do these projects without you, our faithful volunteers!
