Part one of our lecture will be given by Dr. Wendy Drezek. Wendy’s doctorate is from UT Austin is in Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction. She has taught young children for 51 years. In addition to being an educator, she is a Texas Master Naturalist, Texas Water Specialist, Citizen Scientist Invader, and Project WILD and Growing Up Wild Facilitator. She is also the Author of Move, Touch, Do! and Move, Touch, Read! and currently teaches in Gan Gani Preschool, Northwood Elementary and Hardberger Park.
Her presentation will cover the rationale of beginning with nature education in the first three years, the development of the Starting Out Wild Program, and structure of the program, development of infants and toddlers as it determines appropriate instruction for this age group, and an overview of the online lessons, training, curriculum, resources for parents and teachers, and examples of lessons and materials.
Part two of our lecture will be given by Jana Gibbons. Jana is also a Texas Master Naturalist, a San Antonio Zoo Docent, and a San Antonio Botanical Gardens volunteer. She and her husband, Greg, have developed a series of creative and interactive children’s activities that engage the entire family! She and her husband demonstrate these activities at various events around the city. Tonight, she will give us a demonstration of how she engages her audience.
