The Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) recently announced its recognition awards for 2021. Annually the NPSOT recognizes organizations and individuals that advance our mission. The recognitions include the President’s Award, given at the discretion of the society president. One of the award’s winners was the Collin County Chapter’s very own – Carol Clark. In the recent announcement, Kim Conrow, the NPSOT president, said of Carol:
“The second President Award goes to Carol Clark for her volunteer service as the chair of the Bring Back the Monarch to Texas Committee and her tireless educational efforts through presentations, social media, and her naturalist blog Carol’s World. Carol is an influential conservation advocate who works with Monarch Watch and other conservation organizations. She is also a writer and a sought-after speaker throughout Texas.”
Carol and the other members recognized will be honored during the 2021 NPSOT Symposium – “Celebrating Conservation and Community” on October 9th.
Carol has been a member of the Collin County Chapter for over 20 years and was president for 6 years. On behalf of our chapter, there could be no more deserving member to recognize for their tireless work and untold contributions to the NPSOT and our chapter. In addition to the conservation activities listed in the state article Carol serves the community in these ways:
- Chapter Ways and Means Chair, spearheading a native seed collection, packaging and sales program, providing supplemental funds for the chapter
- Texas Master Naturalist, Class of 2010
- Member of the Heard Native Plant Sale Committee
- Co-administrator of the Texas Native Bee Co-op Facebook page
- Leader of nature walks at Oak Point and other area prairies
- Instructor for Monarch Training classes
- Instructor for Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) classes
- Speaker at Texas Master Naturalist Annual Conferences and Native Plant Society of Texas Symposiums
Carol is cherished by all who have heard one of her many presentations or who have felt her gentle guidance as a mentor. She will tell you she is simply re-gifting what was given to her by so many others. That is Carol – naturalist with a generous spirit, dedicated to preserving biodiversity and educating others. Congratulations Carol!
