WHAT: Pop-Up Native Plant/Seed Sale/Swap
WHEN: Saturday, June 11, 9am – 12pm
WHERE: Heartwood Community Gardens
315 Heartwood Dr., Austin, TX 78745 (just off South 1st Street)
NPSOT Austin is hosting an opportunity for individual growers/native enthusiasts to share their native plants. This is a low-key, fun event to help native plants find their forever homes. Each grower will manage/sell/swap their own plants/seeds – imagine an antique mall with individual spaces/vendors.
If you want to “buy” plants/seeds, you’ll browse each grower’s space. They set their own prices/rules and have their own payment/donation options (they choose whether they accept cash only, checks, Venmo/PayPal, etc.).
A few notes:
- Be prepared for a bit of confusion – this is our first time hosting this opportunity!
- Bring cash in case your grower doesn’t accept other payment options.
- There isn’t a bathroom available on site.
- All plants will be Texas natives and many will be more locally native.
If you have native plants/seeds to share/swap/sell, you’ll set up your own space. Native plants only! Locally native is preferred. Invasive and non-native plants will be turned away. Continuing with the antique mall analogy, you’re responsible for setting up/staging your space (bring your own tables if you want them), labeling your plants (again, natives only, preferably native to our region), managing your finances (if you only accept cash, you’re responsible for having cash on hand to make change), and breaking down your space. If you have any plants left over at the end of the day, you’re responsible for taking them home or making other arrangements. We encourage you to give a donation to the Austin NPSOT Chapter for the opportunity to share – Alice Mabry will be on hand to accept cash/checks. Be aware that the donate button on the NPSOT website goes to the state organization, not our local chapter. Since you’ll be staffing your space the entire time you’re there, we encourage you to bring drinking water and be aware there are no restrooms on site. Set up at 8 am. Breakdown begins at 11:30. There will be water for plants available. Plant prices are up to you. Suggested prices for regular natives are $2 for a 4″ pot and $5 for a 1 gallon pot.
